Waterfowl Parks
The Sackville Waterfowl Park is the principal tourist draw of my hometown, Sackville, New Brunswick. On a major migration route, its ponds, reeds, marsh, meadows, and woods attract numerous birds – over 180 species have been sighted – and therefore birders and bird photographers. In addition, the local high school has teamed up with community, wildlife and government bodies to establish the Tantramar Wetlands Centre for environmental education; its 15-hectare site lies close to the Waterfowl Park.
There are few photos of waterfowl below – my eyesight and my patience are not up to being a serious bird photographer. I love the sites’ landscapes, however. The dawn golden hour, which is sometimes a mist hour, can be magical there, and the grey and white birch lining some of its paths and boardwalks are lovely in all seasons.
